Socks to be me // Monthly theme post

Woah, Sophistiqué Noir threw a very interesting blogging challenge this time, and I barely even had the time to do anything! In the past I may have put quite a lot of effort into these theme posts, this time I took a few photos quickly as I have to concentrate on another design project again. And that's too bad, since the theme, hosiery, is quite close to my heart!

Since I only wear pants when exercising, I have quite a collection of hosiery. I don't wear fancy stuff daily because I'm good at ripping delicate stockings and tights, not to mention that I just bought several pairs of thick and warm tights for the winter... Instead, summer months are a real golden age to me since I get to wear short skirts and provocative stockings. That's probably the cornerstone of my style to begin with!

Because I really don't have so much time to spend on this post, I'm only showing off a few of my most favourite pieces or ways to wear hosiery. And they will be accompanied by some lyrics by Emilie Autumn, who is certainly quite a stocking idol for me (yet still I have never mimed her style...).

I admit it; I'm not a very decent girl. My absolute number #1 trademark and cornerstone of my style in summertime is wearing certain overknee socks and a garter belt, with a short skirt so that they show. (Some evidence shows that I've been doing this ever since I was seventeen.) Although I own many socks and a few garter belts, I have certain favourite ones to be paired like this. It's comfortable for me, and good-looking. It's cool enough, yet covers the bruises I have. :D And I know; it looks either damn good or damn tasteless. I'm all for the first option. I may pair them with such casual clothes that I may not look particularly slutty. However, I know I can highlight the best part of my body by wearing those, a short skirt and high heels. Then my legs seem long, and people ignore all the flaws I have.

Very long socks with round holes all the way up! These are funny and quite eye-catching as well. (It was damn difficult to stand on my shoulders and take a photo though.)

Last but not least, some simple socks with vertical stripes. Long ago I was one of those who liked stockings with horizontal stripes, then I got a feeling they make my legs seem shorter. And well, not longer at least for sure. Vertical stripes are classy and quite easy to pair with some different patterns.

  1. Ihana otsikko. Ja EA-lainaukset sopii aikasta hyvin. Olen muuten aina ihmetellyt miksei Kuopiosta saa ihan perus mustavalkoraidallisia sukkiksia, a crying shame. Viimeiset sukat ovat todella hienot. :>

    1. Hehe, kiitos. Siis perus vaakaraidallisia sukkiksia? Niitä nyt luulis aika ajoin olevan ihan Seppälöissä ja näissä. :o Pystyraidalliset onkin sitten jo vähän enemmän etsintää vaativia.

  3. Actually, yes, horizontal stripes do make legs seem shorter - or at least so I've heard. They're cute, I have a few pairs, but I like vertical stripes more: they look more elegant. And they're so cabaret goth <3
Oh, and I adore garters, the garters+stockings on the first picture are gorgeous.

    1. True enough, horizontal lines make things seem wider and vertical taller, so yeah, it does happen, another thing is if a tall person like me can seem "shorter" with horizontal stripes, but at least I imagine they're not flattering me.
      And thank you! :)

    1. Hmm, I think I bought them in a Finnish online store for hosiery and lingerie. The brand is probably Leg Avenue, so I bet you could find some webstore selling their stuff. And thanks! :)

  6. Love the vertical striped stockings and the ones with horizontal holes in them! I can't ever figure out how to wear a garter belt comfortably, though, and I have no idea. It doesn't seem lik it should be that hard...

    1. I was lucky enough to find a garter belt that feels comfortable! It may be difficult since another one I have is itchy and scratchy with its rough lace. Soft materials and the right size! :)

  7. Beautiful! I love your pictures! I also go for the first option, it doesnt look tasteless at all, it looks good! And with the opaque stockings you show less skin than most people does ;)

    1. Thank you! And yes indeed, while many women wear such short skirts with no socks at all, I am covering more! Yet for some reason I still seem to attract more attention, I guess it's just so exceptional...

  8. The exposed garter look can be trashy, but it can also be done tastefully. When it is the latter, I absolutely love it. Linnea-maire is right - that little bit of thigh is a LOT less than what most women show.

Totally agree about the vertical stripes. I'm not into the horizontal ones myself, although they can be a fun look for those who are more into the whimsical. I'm more into the elegant, but that's just me.

    1. Yeah, I try to justify it with actual modesty. :) And sometimes by pointing out that certain Nordic fictional character (for kids) wears some too!
And indeed, vertical stripes are more elegant. I've been wanting pinstripe stockings as well, they are stylish.

  9. Very well done. I love the Emilie Autumn lyrics on all of them! Plus I think it's awesome that you wear socks with your garters showing. I wish I had enough confidence to do that.

    1. Thanks! If you want to try the garter belt style but think you don't have the confidence, maybe you could start with, let's say, a skirt with a hem long enough to cover them most of the time, but which might enable some sneak peeks every now and then? Or if you don't like the idea of making it seem like an accident, perhaps you should try it as a part of some very casual outfit?
